I was very excited to read Chamber of Secrets in particular because the movie version was actually my favorite out of the 8 movies when I was a kid. And for the most part the book didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed the mystery of the heir of Slytherin and what was causing the petrification of the students, just as much as I did in the movies. Ron and Harry in the car to Hogwarts was good too but reading and finding out that Harry almost falling out of the car wasn’t in the books felt criminal even tho it was made only for the movie. The pacing felt like it was being dragged by the plot in the latter half even though it didn’t feel slow when I was reading it at first. And even though the plot was similar to philosopher’s stone I did and still think the plot overall in chamber is more enjoyable and intriguing than about who was trying to steal the stone and what was under the trapdoor. But overall as a book, philosopher’s stone is better but in terms of overall plot, that goes to chamber for me. Basically I don’t mind the repetitive plot because I prefer this version. This book would have been a 5 star if the pacing was better and Harry’s fight with the basilisk wasn’t so Deus ex machine. Also, I very much preferred this way of sort of introducing Voldemort, again. Even though we got our first impression already, it felt almost anticlimactic because of how little we saw of him, but with our reintroduction through what we thought was an innocent prefect, it definitely felt more fleshed out, as the beginnings of our time with the darkest wizard in the wizarding world.

This version of the book is constantly skipping whole words and paragraphs. Sometimes you can get around this by changing to horizontal mode, but not always.

Not as good as Harry Potter and the sorcerer stone but as magical and fantastic nonetheless

This book was so much fun! I think the second book is the last part that’s really lighthearted. From here on out, it’s going to get a lot tougher!
  • Better than the 1st! 😋
