Description

Frank Herbert’s classic masterpiece—a triumph of the imagination and one of the bestselling science fiction novels of all time.

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of Paul Atreides—who would become known as Muad'Dib—and of a great family's ambition to bring to fruition mankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction.

wanted to read the first couple books before the Dune 3 movie release and thought i’d have to work to make it given the size of the book but my god did it keep me reading. kinda love having seen the movie first, as it provides a great visual foundation for the head-movie (yes, takes some of the fun out of it but i often yearn for visual references in books i read, esp large scale sci-fi/space operas). gap b/w movie and book was perfect for it to be familiar but new. the extensive use of internal dialogue (identified by italic text) was sth i’d never experienced before but absolutely adored. more books should leverage. Dune Messiah here i come.

One of the greatest books of all time. Easily. Took me two times through to grasp it

The book was a little dull in the beginning due to it being exactly the same as the movie (most book readers appreciate this, but it hard to watch something first and then read, versus the other way around). Once the book started being different and more expansive, that is when I started to love it and didn’t want to put it down. There are obviously all the elements in the movie in the book, but there are many different things, stories, topics in the book that are so captivating I’m not sure why it wasn’t in the movie! So good!

Dune was a book that brought me back into the flow of reading. On top of this being my first e-book, it was a wonderful and engaging read. My 4 stars were only because some of the sections seemed to jump large timelines in the story with little to no transition. It made me question whether I had skipped an entire chapter. Overall a great read!

Both movies are in this book, and as much as I enjoyed the movies, this book does a much better job of immuring you into the world.

Very rarely do you hear the movie was better than the book. Not a knock to the book by any means, but Dune Part 2 was a masterpiece in theaters.
